Expand your Horizons

Along with the great career opportunities Maine jobs provide, you’ll also encounter limitless opportunities for professional development.  Whether you’re looking to advance your education at one of the County’s three post-secondary institutions (NMCC, UMPI, UMFK), learn on the job in connection with one of our many trade schools or through the Maine Apprenticeship Program, or network while learning (Leadership Aroostook, Momentum Aroostook, Young Professionals Institute), numerous experiences to grow await you in Aroostook.

Leadership Aroostook

Leadership Aroostook is a professional development initiative created by the Aroostook Partnership in conjunction with Husson University’s College of Business’s Institute for Strategic Leadership and Workforce Development. The program consists of nine in-person monthly training sessions, readings, online written discussions between sessions, and a culminating team project. Every year, the project tackle prominent roadblocks our community faces.

Dr. Marie Hansen, dean of Husson University’s College of Business, feels that the program provides significant value to both employees and employers. “Employees who have gone through the Leadership Aroostook program gain new leadership skills and knowledge that provide professional growth and higher levels of organizational engagement. Employers are likely to see higher retention levels from their employees along with having grown their leaders. Everyone benefits!”

Young Professionals Institute

The Young Professionals Institute is an 8-week professional development short course that helps participants who are young in their careers hone their professional skills through hands-on activities, on-the-spot public speaking assignments, and business simulation exercises. Along the way, participants complete collaborative assignments and hear presentations by embedded guests from the public and private sector. The Institute culminates in a showcase presentation before area business and community leaders, and past YPI graduates. Hosted by the University of Maine at Presque Isle and MMG Insurance, YPI has provided training to area professionals for more than a decade.
