Leadership Aroostook

Leadership Aroostook is a professional development program created by the Aroostook Partnership in conjunction with Husson University’s Institute for Strategic Leadership and Workforce Development. The goal of the program is to help prepare high potential managers for more responsibility, impact, and effectiveness in leading their organizational teams and departments. Starting in the fall, the program consists of nine in-person monthly classes, readings, written assignments, and a culminating team project that is presented to local business leaders. Class topics include critical thinking and decision making, strategic planning, leadership, and financial management.

Dr. Marie Hansen, dean of Husson University’s College of Business and program facilitator, feels that the program provides significant value to both employees and employers.  “Leadership Aroostook provides new skills and knowledge to Aroostook County leaders for professional growth and higher levels of organizational engagement. As a result of this program, organizations have seen higher employee retention rates, new skills applied in the workplace and even promotion in roles for the participants.”

Along the way, participants complete collaborative assignments and hear presentations by embedded guests from the public and private sector. The Institute culminates in a showcase presentation before area business and community leaders, and past YPI graduates. Hosted by the University of Maine at Presque Isle and MMG Insurance, YPI has provided training to area professionals for more than a decade.

Maine Apprenticeship Program

The Maine Apprenticeship Program offers employers a pathway to develop a skilled workforce or upskilling existing workforce, while providing individuals with paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a nationally recognized credential. 91% of apprentices retain employment after the conclusion of the program, and 89% retain employment for at least 3 years. For employers, this means $1.46 return on investment for every $1 spent.
